Petite PlayBloc

userguide

If you purchased the self-assembling DIY version, please read the following assembly instructions carefully. If you purchased the finished product, you may proceed directly to the Product Use & Care section for daily maintenance information.

Assembly Instructions

Although the assembly process is fully reversible and allows repeated adjustments, we recommend carefully reading all instructions beforehand to achieve the best assembly quality and final form.

Dedicated Screw

  • Please use the dedicated Ring Spanner provided to protect both the screws and leather surface.
  • During assembly, each leather hole must correspond to the correct screw length. Please refer to the screw numbering shown in the assembly video.

  • Screws should be tightened firmly until they lightly secure the leather surface. If a screw becomes difficult to tighten, remove the nut and check for leather debris or foreign particles in the thread before reassembling.

  • Although the screws are reusable, the anti-loosening coating on their surface will gradually wear down with repeated assembly and disassembly. Frequent removal is therefore not recommended.

  • Do not apply lubricant or oil to the screws, as this may damage the anti-loosening coating.

Dedicated Ring Spanner

  • The dedicated Ring Spanner reduces assembly effort, provides appropriate torque, and features a soft-contact surface to help protect both screws and leather during assembly.

  • Both sides of the Ring Spanner are covered with soft gray and black protective layers corresponding to different screw types. Please follow the gray/black side indications shown in the assembly video for the best experience.

Water Pen

  • Assembly is recommended under normal indoor temperatures (15°C–40°C / 59°F–104°F).

  • Before folding the leather, use the water pen to apply moisture along the cut-path lines on the reverse side of the leather. This increases flexibility in the folding area, making shaping easier while protecting the leather fibers.

  • Fill the pen body with clean water.Twist and attach the pen tip.Gently squeeze the pen body during application to maintain a controlled water flow.Once the cut-path areas are evenly moistened, folding can begin.

  • If moisture gradually evaporates during the folding process (when the leather color fully returns), additional water may be applied as needed.

  • After folding and fastening the screws, place the finished product in a well-ventilated area to air dry naturally. The temporarily darkened leather color caused by moisture will gradually return to its original tone.

  • Do not use liquids other than clean water, as this may permanently alter the leather color or characteristics.

Kneadable Eraser

  • The Kneadable Eraser is designed to remove residual leather powder trapped within the cut-path areas during assembly.

  • Before use, remove the outer plastic sleeve and protective film.

  • As the leather bends, the inner cut surfaces may become exposed. Gently tap or press the Kneadable Eraser along these cut surfaces to lift away residual leather particles.

  • If eraser residue remains on the leather surface, remove it by lightly tapping or pressing. Avoid rubbing the leather surface repeatedly with the Kneadable Eraser.

  • If the Kneadable Eraser surface becomes saturated with dust, kneading it will help restore its cleaning performance.

  • After assembly, the Kneadable Eraser can be kept as a useful tool for future leather surface cleaning.

Protective Paper Spacer

  • The protective paper spacer is used to prevent accidental scratching caused by the rotation of the Ring Spanner during assembly.

  • Although the Ring Spanner already features a soft-contact surface, using the protective spacer provides additional isolation and protection.

  • The spacer is disposable and intended only for assembly use. Once assembly is complete, it can simply be removed from the leather product.

Product Use & Care

Vegetable-tanned Leather Care Instructions

  • All Smoll products are made from natural vegetable-tanned leather, one of the oldest and most environmentally friendly tanning methods. Over time, the leather will gradually deepen in color and develop a natural luster through use. Respecting and preserving the leather’s original and natural appearance, without compromising the product’s structure or functionality, has always been Smoll’s steadfast attitude toward nature and sustainability.

  • Leather care oil (such as mink oil) may be used for regular maintenance or minor scratch repair. Before applying leather oil, gently remove dirt and dust from the leather surface using a clean soft brush or dry cloth.

  • During everyday use, leather products should be protected from scratches, rain exposure, oil stains, and contact with acidic or alkaline substances. Do not soak or wash the product.

  • Mold is mostly caused by environmental conditions. Regular exposure to fresh air can help prevent mold growth. If light surface mold appears, gently wipe it away with a clean cotton cloth, then place the product in a well-ventilated area to air dry naturally.

  • If the leather product becomes wet, first absorb excess moisture with a dry cloth and remove any contents to avoid unnecessary weight or deformation. Place the product in a ventilated area to dry naturally away from direct sunlight. The leather color will gradually return to normal after drying. A fan may be used to assist air drying, but do not use hair dryers, tumble dryers, or heaters.

  • With long-term use, natural vegetable-tanned leather may gradually develop slight fraying along the edges. This is a natural characteristic of the material and does not affect the product’s structure or functionality. The leather edges may also be refinished to restore a smooth appearance. (Studio Smoll provides this service for an additional fee.)

Screw Care Instructions

  • The screws are coated with a special treatment designed to reduce the possibility of loosening.

  • Although the screws are reusable, the anti-loosening effectiveness provided by the special coating will gradually decrease with repeated assembly.

  • Repeated disassembly and reassembly of the screws is not recommended, as this will eventually cause the anti-loosening function to fail. Because the coating is consumable in nature, we are unable to provide warranty, repair, or recycling services for used screws. If excessive degradation of the anti-loosening performance affects product usability, replacement screw sets are available for purchase from us.

  • The screws do not require any lubricating oil or lubricant, as this may cause the anti-loosening coating to fail.

  • All screws included with our products are made from stable, acid- and alkali-resistant 304 stainless steel and require no special maintenance. If dirt or dust accumulates, simply wipe clean with a dry cloth. If using a damp cloth, avoid contact with the leather areas.
