From Premium Leather to An Executive Wallet
The plant-based natural tannins and the centuries-old technique makes vegetable tanned leather desirable and prestigious. Compared with chrome-tanned leather, veg-tanned leather takes longer time to process, but preserving a more obvious grain that differs from every piece. This method contains no toxins or chemicals, making veg-tanned leather an ideal option for everyday use material that has direct contact with skin. It is also the reason why veg-tanned leather is commonly found in pricey customized goods or in professional workshops.
Another lovable trait of veg-tanned leather is its continuous changing color. The original color of veg-tanned leather is light beige, but as the pores face outside, factors such as humidity and sunlight change the color into a luxurious, warm caramel brown over time. Generally speaking, after 16-20 weeks of use, the color will start to grow slightly darker, making it a charming trace of time.
This is a natural and unique phenomenon that varies from each piece, which makes veg-tanned leather ages like fine wine that only gets better with time.
After trying out different curves, shapes, and sizes, we found the perfect pattern for the seamless crease design. With our very own laser cutting machine, we’re able to create clean and clear edges on each leather piece.
Smoll Origami Wallets are one-piece formed and completely free from chemical substance, glue and stitching, and they can be folded as compliant as paper and stay slim yet firm.
We overcome the limits of traditional veg-tanned leather making, allowing Smoll Origami Wallet to be a single, complete unit that carries out the authenticity of the material.
The only mechanism used in forming the wallet is an ultra-short stainless steel screw, whose head is only 1.2mm thick. This tiny component keeps the origami seamless structure solid and firm, avoiding any kind of loosening situation.
By using the screwing tool we designed, the assembly is easy and won’t leave scratches on the leather surface. Forming the wallet seems quite challenging, but it is not. A small piece of engraving adds a little posh element to this personal accessory, and it only appears when you open the wallet, leaving your personal information in a modest, private space. The service is available as an add-on.

Design & Prototype
After launching Smoll Envelope Wallet, it got us thinking about the possibilities of veg-tanned leather origami wallets. Adapting to the modern lifestyle that requires quick, contactless payment and more, we thought a new type of design will be more efficient than the wallets of traditional concepts.
With the same passion for aesthetic minimalism, we spent months figuring out the perfect form to showcase the beauty of the veg-tanned leather and the convenience of contactless scanning. Taking inspiration from the swiss army, we designed expandable rotary layers to store the frequently used items such as commuting card, company ID or even coins and keys. In order to achieve the best user experience, we tested out multiple prototypes and really used them in everyday life to find the perfect design.
Despite the importance of convenience, security is also the priority. For this purpose, we applied RFID-blocking shields in the front and back of Smoll Wrap Wallet, so cards with important data won’t be vulnerable to scammers anymore.
Every Smoll Origami Wallet is crafted by hand and treated with love. The entire process from design to production is taken care of by our own team, assuring every detail meets our high standards.
